SEE IT STYLED — A PRODUCT SHOWCASE

Homes England, the Governments housing accelerator, required a standout workplace design solution for its new space at The Lumen, an exceptional building in the heart of Newcastle Helix.

They engaged XAB Architects to design and deliver ‘an agile and collaborative office space designed for the future’.  The 19,316 square foot office space has capacity for up to 300 staff and demonstrates the agency’s commitment to the north east of England.

The project was originally due to start in the spring of 2020, as the first UK national lockdown was imposed the design was adapted to suit social distancing. As it became clear that a return to the office was not going to be imminent, plans were revisited to imagine how the office might function in a post-covid world.

A partnered approach between Homes England, XAB Architects and The Senator Group resulted in a functional, creative and sustainable workspace. Allermuir products were a key part of the workplace environment, particularly in the cafeteria and reconfigurable workshop and event spaces.

“It is expected that the design will need to be adapted as we get a better understanding of how the future office will function. For this reason the design is, as far as possible, furniture based”

"Although the office has yet to be occupied the staff were introduced to their new space at a virtual launch event. Despite the huge changes to their working and travel arrangements, the staff response was overwhelmingly positive. It will be exciting to see how they adapt to the new environment over the next few week."
